Jacqueline Fernandez grew up in Bahrain, Manama. She is Sri Lankan and comes from an ethnically diverse background. Jacqueline's father Elroy is a Sri Lankan (Catholic Sinhalese) and her mother, Kim, a Malaysian. Jacqueline is the oldest of two brothers as well as a younger sister. Because of the turmoil in Lanka, her parents relocated to Bahrain in the late 1980s. Following her education in Bahrain her family was granted the Scholarship to attend Sydney's University of Sydney, where she completed a bachelor's master's degree in Media and Communications in Sydney, Australia. She also attended an institute called the Berlitz School of Foreign Languages, which helped her improve on French, Arabic and Spanish. Miss Sri Lanka 2006 won Miss Universe 2006 competition in March 2006. She also competed as Miss Universe 2006 also. In the wake of being crowned Miss Sri Lanka in 2006 Padukone was able to begin her work in the world of television. She hosted the show Lanka Business Report which focused on the business of Sri Lanka. Padukone was the daughter of badminton champ Prakash Padukone. Padukone grew as a child in Bangalore however, she was born in Copenhagen. As a teenager, she played in national level badminton tournaments. She later resigned from the sport to become a designer. Padukone is from Mangalorean background and her native language is Konkani. Padukone, a village situated in Kundapura Taluk located in Udupi in Karnataka State in India is where her lineage comes from. Prakash Padukone was a badminton legend before retiring in the 1980s. She has a mother who runs a travel agency, also hails from this village.
